Senior IT Systems Administrator

Job Description:

As a Senior System Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining the stability, security, and performance of our diverse IT environment. Your expertise in Linux server administration, Microsoft server administration, networking, database management, scripting, cloud services (AWS), and legacy system modernization will be crucial in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operating Systems Administration: Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems (including CentOS, Rocky, and FreeBSD).
• Database Management: Handle database management tasks, including MySQL/MariaDB administration and experience in upgrading MySQL/MariaDB.
• Network Management: Knowledge of network setup, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP, VLAN implementation (FreeBSD and PFSense).
• Server Management: Experience in managing and configuring servers, both physical and virtual.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Possess the ability to work with legacy systems, analyze them, and modernize as necessary. Maintain basic skills in PHP and Java to support web applications.
• AWS Cloud Services: Proficiency in AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, and VPC. Understanding of cloud architecture and deployment models. Utilize Kubernetes and Docker to manage containerized applications.
• AWS Security Management: Knowledge of AWS security practices, including IAM roles and security groups.
• AWS Networking: Experience with AWS networking services like VPC, Route 53, and AWS Direct Connect.
• Automation and Scripting: Skills in automation and scripting, particularly in AWS environments (eg. CloudFormation).
• Communication and Teamwork: Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Qualifications:

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Senior-Level Experience: Considerable experience in a Senior System Administrator role or similar.
• Linux Server Expertise: Proficiency in administering Linux servers, particularly CentOS, Rocky, and FreeBSD.
• Microsoft Server Knowledge: Strong understanding of Microsoft server administration.
• Networking Skills: Solid grasp of networking principles and VLAN architecture.
• Firewall Management: Ability to configure and manage firewalls, with a focus on FreeBSD and PFSense.
• Database Administration: Experience in managing and upgrading MySQL/MariaDB.
• Scripting Proficiency: Competent in scripting with bash, python, and perl.
• AWS Competence and Certification: Familiarity with AWS services and cloud computing. AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator credentials preferred.
• Container Orchestration: Proficient in Kubernetes and Docker for container management.
• Legacy Systems and Modernization: Ability to work with and modernize legacy systems.
• Web Application Support Skills: Basic knowledge of PHP and Java for supporting web applications.
• Problem-Solving and Communication: Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Manage and maintain Microsoft server environments.
• Hold certifications in Linux server administration.
• Possess server security certifications to enhance system protection.
