BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Serves as Political/Economic Assistant, obtaining, compiling and analyzing political, human rights, and economic information received from contacts and from published and unpublished sources. Prepares factual and analytical reports and cables on the whole spectrum of Moldovan political developments. Develops and maintains extensive and diverse contacts at a relatively high level in the Moldovan Government and private sector. Serves as Romanian- and Russian-language interpreter for the Front Office and visiting officials, dealing with a broad range of complex technical and conceptually difficult issues. Translates and summarizes legal and constitutional documents, and opinion pieces by Moldovan commentators.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
1. University Degree in Political Science, International Relations, History, International Law, Economics, Business, Finance, or other closely related field is required.
2. Minimum three years experience in newspaper reporting on political or economic matters, university teaching, applicable government work, or other related field is required.
3. Level 4 (Fluent) in English, Romanian and Russian is required. This will be tested.

4. Incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of host country's political, economic, and social structure, institutions, political parties, historical development, and key political figures. Must have a sound grasp of U.S. foreign policy objectives vis-a-vis the host country.
5. Must have the ability to plan, organize, and execute complex research projects and to prepare precise and accurate factual and analytical reports. Must possess solid skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Explorer and MS Outlook as well as solid competency in general computer usage and Internet navigation.
SELECTION PROCESS
When equally qualified, Eligible Family Members and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that all candidates address the required qualifications above in the application.
The Embassy will give all applicants full consideration. Applicants should be aware that having a close relative working at the Embassy in any capacity that could create a conflict of interest would be considered a disqualifying factor.
ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and visa status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees of the extended Mission serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
4. Currently employed Not-Ordinarily Residents (NOR) hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
