Home Assistant / ESPHome / C++ Developer

We are looking for a developer to work on the software side of smart home projects based on Home Assistant, ESPHome, and ESP32.

We need a specialist who can work with configurations, automations, C++ code for ESP32, custom components, integrations, and smart home logic.

This role does not involve soldering, PCB design, or deep electronics. The main focus is software development and smart home system configuration.

Responsibilities

Develop and configure ESPHome configurations for ESP32-based devices.
Write and improve C++ code for ESP32 within ESPHome.
Create or modify custom components for ESPHome.
Integrate ESP32 devices with Home Assistant.
Create automations, scripts, scenes, helpers, and dashboards in Home Assistant.
Work with YAML, templates, and Home Assistant logic.
Configure MQTT, ESPHome Native API, REST API, or other methods of data exchange.
Diagnose issues using Home Assistant, ESPHome, and ESP32 logs.
Configure OTA updates and remote device updates.
Improve the stability of devices, automations, and integrations.
Work with Git.
Document configurations, C++ code, automation logic, and instructions for the team.

Required Skills

Experience with or a good understanding of Home Assistant.
Experience with or a good understanding of ESPHome.
Knowledge of C++.
Understanding of ESP32 from a software perspective.
Strong understanding of YAML.
Understanding of ESPHome configuration structure.
Basic understanding of MQTT, APIs, or other data exchange methods.
Ability to read logs and identify the causes of errors.
Experience with Git or willingness to learn it quickly.
Ability to work with documentation and apply found solutions in practice.

Nice to Have

Experience creating custom components for ESPHome.
Experience developing custom integrations for Home Assistant in Python.
Knowledge of Python.
Experience with Node-RED.
Experience with Zigbee2MQTT, ZHA, or Tasmota.
Understanding of Matter / Thread.
Experience with Docker and Linux.
Experience setting up Home Assistant OS / Supervised / Container.
Experience creating dashboards in Home Assistant.
Experience with commercial or personal smart home projects.

Who We Are Looking For

We do not necessarily need a fully independent senior developer. We are also open to considering a beginner specialist if they have a solid technical foundation, an interest in smart home technologies, and a desire to grow in Home Assistant, ESPHome, and C++ for ESP32.

It is important that the candidate is able to learn, work with documentation, ask the right questions, test their code, and gradually bring tasks to completion. We are ready to help with direction and task setting, but we expect attention to detail, responsibility, and a desire to grow in this field.

The main focus of this role is software development for smart home systems: Home Assistant, ESPHome, C++, YAML, MQTT/API, custom components, automations, and error diagnostics.

This role is not related to soldering, PCB design, or deep electronics.
